Indication:

Pomalidomide is mainly used to treat multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells. It is prescribed for patients who have already tried other treatments like lenalidomide and bortezomib but their disease has worsened. Pomalidomide helps slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells and boosts the immune system to fight the disease. It is usually used in combination with other medicines, like low-dose dexamethasone.

Dosage:                               

Pomalidomide (brand name Pomalyst) is taken by mouth to treat multiple myeloma, usually in patients who have already received other treatments. The usual dose is 4 mg once daily for 21 days, followed by 7 days off, making a 28-day treatment cycle. It is often used along with other medicines like dexamethasone. It should be taken at the same time each day, with or without food, and swallowed whole with water.

Note:

Strict pregnancy prevention is required due to high risk of birth defects.

Blood tests are done regularly to check blood cell counts and monitor side effects.

Dose may be adjusted based on tolerance or lab results, especially if low white blood cells or infections occur.

Side Effect:

The most common side effects of Pomalidomide are:

Dizziness, confusion, tiredness, weakness, constipation, diarrhea, back/bone pain, muscle pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting. Tell your doctor or pharmacist right away if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
