Indication:

DEUTETRABENAZINE, of chorea associated with Huntington’s disease and for the treatment of tardive dyskinesia in adults, working as a vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitor to reduce excessive involuntary movements.

Dosage:

The dosage of deutetrabenazine depends on the condition being treated and the patient’s metabolic status. For tardive dyskinesia (TD), treatment usually begins at 6 mg twice daily, with gradual weekly increases of 6 mg per day based on response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 48 mg per day (typically divided into two doses). For chorea associated with Huntington disease, the common starting dose is 6 mg per day, increased by 6 mg per week to a usual maintenance range of 24–48 mg per day, not exceeding 48 mg per day. Dose adjustments are required when using strong CYP2D6 inhibitors or in poor CYP2D6 metabolizers. The medication should be taken with food and titrated slowly to minimize adverse effects such as somnolence, depression, parkinsonism, and QT prolongation.

Note:

Deutetrabenazine is contraindicated in patients with untreated or active depression, suicidal ideation, hepatic impairment, or those taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or reserpine. Regular monitoring of mood, motor symptoms, and cardiac status is recommended during therapy.

Side Effect:

The most common side effects of Deutetrabenazine are:
